At the 2008 China Venture Capital Forum, which was just concluded in Shenzhen, Zhang Ying, managing partner and co founder of Jingwei Venture Capital China fund, made a clear statement: he is not optimistic about college students' entrepreneurship. "We will never vote for graduates who have just graduated."

Zhang Ying was answering the question of Martin Haemming, a guest professor at Stanford University, about the investment in the TMT industry.

He believes that in the early days, even if the company did not make profits, entrepreneurs should have a deep judgement on the industry.

While the newly graduated university students have entrepreneurial passion, but they do not have the conditions for starting a business, so Jingwei ventures will never vote for the newly graduated university students.

He said that Chinese university students do not have the conditions for starting a business.

Whether or not college students are suitable for entrepreneurship is not related to their quality, but because China's higher education has not yet helped college students to adapt themselves to the society and start their own business.

He also said that some famous university students have high expectations for themselves, but they are not well prepared.

You know, starting a business in China, the environment is bad, the competition is very cruel, and it needs a lot of connections. The success factors of many people are quite different from the mature entrepreneurial environment in the United States.

He has repeatedly stressed that he believes that the current college students do not have the entrepreneurial conditions.

Zhang Ying also said in his speech that China's first generation of entrepreneurs had strong executive power but lacked a strategic height.

He believes that this is mainly due to the rapid development of China's economy.

The Boston based Jingwei venture capital company is one of the oldest venture capital funds in the US. It focuses on investing in early entrepreneurial ventures, and is renowned for its investment in Sequoia and KPCB.

Since its establishment in 1977, Jingwei ventures has built up a large number of successful enterprises, including apple computer, FedEx, SanDisk and so on.
