European Textile Waste Recycling Program Launched
In recent years, the fashion industry has paid more and more attention to the concept of sustainable development. Many brands and fashion organizations have paid attention to the consumer demand for sustainable development. Some brands have launched new environmental innovation projects, and some regions have even cooperated to build an economic recycling system. Euratex is committed to this.
The European Federation of clothing and textile industries has recently launched an innovative textile waste recycling program "rehubs". Rehubs has two parts. First, it hopes to establish five textile waste recycling and treatment centers in the EU region to reduce the environmental hazards of textile waste dumps.
This will be a huge project. It will involve five EU countries: Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy and Spain. These countries will set up a textile waste recycling and treatment center to accelerate the recycling and treatment of textile waste on a large scale.
According to the data of the European Federation of clothing and textile industries, textile waste has become a threat to EU countries. Last year, 10.7 million tons of textiles were used in EU countries, but only 2.8 million tons of textile waste were recovered and treated correctly. The remaining treatment methods were unreasonable, especially 4 million tons of textile waste were incinerated, This has a huge adverse effect on our air. If it is not actively dealt with, the ultimate evil will be swallowed up by human beings. Therefore, the European Union has established five textile waste recycling and treatment centers, which is a very large-scale coordination mechanism to specially collect, classify and treat these huge textile wastes, so as to eliminate the environmental and economic hazards that they may bring to the EU region in the future.
The European Federation of clothing and textile industries has high hopes for the newly established textile waste recycling and treatment centers in five separate countries, hoping that they can recover and process up to 48 million to 55 million tons of textile waste in the EU region in five years.
The second part of the rehubs programme focuses on the recycling of textile waste with the aim of creating a new market for used textile materials in Europe. Because many of the large amount of textile waste recovered in Europe every year is burned and landfilled, if more textile technologies can be developed to recycle these textiles, incineration and landfill can be reduced. At present, the European Federation of clothing and textile industries is still looking for partners to help implement the second part of the plan, so the specific implementation time has not been disclosed. However, if the project is successful, more than one million tons of textile waste can be recycled in European countries every year.
