Near June, the cotton planting season, the roar of machines in the thousand mu cotton demonstration base in Sihushan Town, Yuanjiang City kept rising. Different from the past, there are not many people in the base, only rotary tillers, seeders, mulchers and other machines shuttle back and forth between the ground, which is a busy scene. This is the first large-scale mechanized cotton planting of one thousand mu in Hunan Province. Later, plant protection and picking will also be completed by unmanned aerial vehicles, cotton pickers and other machinery, truly realizing "full production cycle" mechanization.

"Through the rotation of cotton and rape, the comprehensive benefit per mu can reach more than 1000 yuan. In addition to the cost reduction and efficiency increase brought by the whole mechanized operation, it can provide farmers with far more income than ever before." Professor Peng Fanjia of Hunan Cotton Science Research Institute introduced to everyone. The seeds used this time are new varieties cultivated by the Institute, and the characteristics of insect resistance, short growth cycle and high uniformity provide a realistic basis for mechanized operation.

In addition to new varieties, the base also adopts new methods, new plans and new models, and implements the mode of unified planting varieties, unified technical regulations, unified green prevention and control, unified mechanical operation, and unified picking and selling, so that farmers can focus on production and become rich actively. "It used to take a whole day to pick one mu of cotton by hand, but now one cotton picker can pick more than 100 mu every day. I have planted more than 300 mu of cotton by myself, and I am not worried about the market. I dare not think about it before." Butaifu, a large farmer, said his feelings happily.

It is reported that in recent years, the town has adhered to the idea of "one village, one specialty", combining with the actual situation of each village to cultivate characteristic projects and industries. By actively introducing new technologies and models and strengthening cooperation with scientific research institutions, a number of characteristic planting and breeding bases, including "cotton base", "navel orange base" and "aquatic base", have been developed, providing a good foundation for local development and rural revitalization.
