People wear clothes or clothes for a long time to wash, and the fibers on the surface of the fabric will loose due to friction and slipping on the surface of the fabric to form fuzz. Because of their good wear resistance, these hairs will be entangled into balls as they continue to be subjected to external friction. Pilling is one of the important factors that affect the handle, appearance and wearability of fabrics. It is also an important indicator of the quality of clothing products.

The four conventional methods of anti pilling test are circular orbit method, Martin Dyer method, roll box method and random roll method.

1. Circular locus method:

This method is widely used in woven fabrics and knitted fabrics.

Testing principle:

According to the specified method and test parameters, nylon brush and fabric abrasive or fabric abrasives are used to make the sample rubbing and pilling. Then, the pilling performance is assessed by visual description under prescribed light conditions. The parameters of the circular track method can be selected according to the fabric type, and the product standard can be based on the product standard requirements: GB/T4802.1-2008 requirements.

Two, Martin and Dyer:

This method is mainly used for knitted fabrics, woven fabrics, especially home textiles.

Testing principle:

Under specified pressure, the circular specimen is rubbed with the same pattern and the fabric of the same fabric or wool fabric. The specimen can rotate freely around the central axis perpendicular to the plane of the specimen. After the prescribed friction stage, the fuzzing or pilling grades of the specimens were assessed by visual description.

Commonly used criteria: GB/T4802.2-2008 ISO5670, BS3424/5690, BS EN ISO12947-1, BS EN ISO12945-2, etc.

Three. Roll box method:

This method is mostly used for knitted fabrics, especially wool fabrics.

Testing principle:

The specimens installed on the polyurethane tube are arbitrarily reversed in wooden cases with constant speed and cork lining. After the prescribed number of turns, visual assessment of fuzzing and / or pilling performance is carried out.

Commonly used criteria: GB/T 4802.3, ISO 12945.1, BS5811, JIS L1076, IWS TM152, M&SP18, P18B, P18C, P21A, and so on.

Four. Random rollover method:

Testing principle:

Scrambling pilling tester can detect pilling performance of fabric. Under the rotation of stainless steel blades in the independent stainless steel sample chamber, the fabric and cork lining are continuously and randomly rubbed. The test time is controlled by a timer and an audio alarm. The test chamber can also be injected with compressed air to enhance the turnover and friction.

Commonly used criteria: GB/T4802.4, ISO12945.3, ASTM D3512, ASTM D1375, etc.
