Hermes's Second Quarter Sales Surged 14.7%
Hermes released the group's second quarter performance report, showing that group sales rose 14.7% to 1 billion 670 million euros over the same period, exceeding expectations.
The Asian region is the most robust market for Hermes, with sales in the second quarter up 16.5% to 840 million euros. China's mainland market has enjoyed a good growth momentum, and all countries in Asia have recorded double-digit growth. Hermes recently opened a new store in Shanghai, Singapore and Thailand. It will also open a new store in Xiamen, Fujian province this month.
European income rose by 7.3% to 504 million euros on a fixed exchange rate, and the US regional income rose 10% over the same period.
According to the business category, Hermes said that the performance of the clothing and accessories department was particularly outstanding. Sales revenue rose by 16.9% to 394 million euros based on fixed exchange rate, and sales of leather goods increased 12.2% to 844 million euros compared with the same period last year. Sales of jewellery and household business rose 20.8%, silk and sales increased 5.8%, sales of perfume business increased by 3.5%, and watches sales increased 7.6%.
Rogerio Fujimori, a luxury analyst at Royal Bank of Canada, said it was another stable quarter for Hermes. He predicts that the Hermes group will have more investment in the second half of the year, focusing on the field of communication, the field of employee welfare, and the preparation for the release of beauty products next year.
Hermes has been opening new factories and expanding its factories. In May, Hermes announced that it would expand its textile centre in Pierre-B e nite, France, employing more than 1/4 of its staff to expand production capacity to meet the growing demand of Asian consumers for silk and textiles. Before 2020, Hermes will also open two leather factories and employ more than 800 employees.
Hermes will announce the 2019 financial year semi annual report on September 11th.
